Rosie Lavan – War and the Irish Town: Derry and Belfast, 1968-1972

Rosie Lavan graduated from St Anne’s College, Oxford, in 2005 before working as a journalist in London. She returned to Oxford in 2010 where she is now in the final year of her PhD, “Seamus Heaney and Society, 1964 to 1994”. Here she discusses the urban violence, spatial divisions and contested geographies that have dominated the cityscapes of Derry and Belfast, and how these have been represented in literature and art.
